Mangalore, Jun 3 (Saturday, 8-30 pm): The 23rd IATA/UFTAA convocation of the Globe College of Travel and Tourism was held in Hotel Taj Manjarun on Saturday evening.

M T Alva of Air India, Mangalore was the chief guest on the occasion. Samantha Soans made an invocation. Gloria Viegas welcomed the gathering. Renita introduced the chief guest. Alva, as chief guest, presented the honourst to the successful candidates.

Two students, Enica D'Souza and Sushma Pai shared their experiences at the College. Sheikh Faisal proposed the vote of thanks. Principal Astrid Rasquinha took over the formal part of the convocation. Dheeraj Karkera compered the function.

About 20 students passed out this time, three with distinction. Already 98% of this batch have been employed in the tourism industry.

About the college

The Globe College of Travel and Tourism was established in 1994 with the intention of providing qualified personnel to work in the tourism field. This was the 5th authorized centre of IATA then, and was the only recognized college in Karnataka until 2004.

So far 23 batches have passed out with a total of 630 students. Since 2002, the college has been recognized as an examination centre. The college also provides on-the-job training with reputable airlines for all students, esp. with Air India and Indian Airlines.
