Margao, May 31: The Goa electricity department faced loss of around Rs six million (60 lac), as about 190 electrical poles have fallen to the ground, as a result of continuous rains accompanied by gusty winds in south Goa.

While 160 out of the reported 190 poles that were grounded in south Goa, most of the sub stations were shut down till late evening.

"We have all the technical support to restore the electricity, also we have the manpower. But the problem is that it is difficult to work in the current weather conditions. Most of the electrical poles have fallen in the fields, which are flooded. If the rain takes a break, we would be able to restore power in remote areas also," said power minister Digamber Kamat, while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent.

Electrical supply was affected in the areas of Canacona, Benaulim, Navelim, Kepem and most interior parts of south Goa.

Kamat also said that the loss might reach 10 million, as reports were yet to come from some parts of Goa.
