Alfonso Cuarón bags Oscar for directing 'Gravity'


Los Angeles, March 3 (IANS): Alfonso Cuarón, who directed 'Gravity', was handed over the Oscar for the best director at the award ceremony hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres here Sunday.

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, it narrates the story of three members of a shuttle crew, who while working outside the craft to repair the Hubble telescope, have a catastrophic encounter with a field of space debris.

Other directors, nominated in the same category were David O. Russell for 'American Hustle', 'Nebraska's' Alexander Payne, Steve McQueen for '12 Years a Slave' and Martin Scorsese for 'The Wolf of Wall Street'.

'Gravity' has already won multiple awards at the function Sunday evening.
