Alec Baldwin to play journalist in TV show

Los Angeles, Feb 27 (IANS): Actor Alec Baldwin will be seen essaying the role of a journalist in the TV show "Law & Order: SVU".

The 55-year-old will play newspaper columnist Jimmy McArthur, who questions the SVU squad's motives during a hate crime-rape investigation, in an upcoming episode of the TV show, reports nypost.com.

The episode will go on air March 19.

Baldwin has a long and volatile history with the media.

The star called a reporter of the British tabloid - Daily Mail - a "toxic little queen" in June, 2013, after it reported that his wife, Hilaria, was tweeting during the celebrity-packed funeral of James Gandolfini.

In New York magazine, Baldwin labelled former MSNBC colleague Joe Scarborough as "neither eloquent nor funny" and called host Rachel Maddow "a phony who doesn't have the same passion for the truth off-camera that she seems to have on the air".
