Bangalore, Feb 3: The State Government has constituted a five-member University Review Commission for reviewing the functioning and financial administration of universities.
The high-level panel to review the functioning and financial administration of universities had been constituted in view of the increase in number of universities and diversified courses in the State, Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande announced in Bangalore on Monday.
N R Shetty, former vice-chancellor of Bangalore University, is the chairman of the five-member University Review Commission.
Other members of the commission are: V B Coutinho, retired director, Bar Council of India; Muniyamma, former vice-chancellor of Gulbarga University; M Mahadevappa, former vice-chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad; and A M Pathan, former vice-chancellor of Central University, Gulbarga.
The Higher Education Minister said there was a dire need to constitute a commission to analyse and review the functioning of universities and for making suitable recommendations.
Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj, who is chancellor, has approved the proposal to constitute the commission.
The commission would submit reports and recommendations regularly for the consideration of the Chancellor through the government after analysing and reviewing the functions and working efficiencies of State universities in accordance with Karnataka Universities Act, 2000, Deshpande said.
