Chennai, May 20: A week after M Karunanidhi assumed office as Chief Minister heading the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, his ally Congress strongly pitched for a coalition ministry that would include itself.
Releasing a resolution passed at the Congress Legislature Party meeting here, CWC member Veerappa Moily in charge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu, told reporters here that "we are firm in getting a share in power".
He said when he had taken up the matter when he met Karunanidhi soon after the assembly elections results were out.
"Congress Legislature Party is of the firm view that the mandate of the people of the state is for the DPA government led by Karunanidhi," the resolution said. "It is desirable that all constituents of the DPA in Tamil Nadu be part of the ministry in the interest of stability and effective functioning of the ministry", it said.
It also demanded a common minimum programme (CMP) on the lines of the UPA's CMP.
