Udupi, May 19: Deeksha Ramakrishna of Hejje Gejje dance troupe of Manipal received the national level Sammikhya Bharata Gourav Satkar Award recently.
This prestigious award, instituted by Madras Telugu Academy, was presented to Deeksha by actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
Deeksha, a 7th standard student of Madhuva Krupa School, was honoured for her contribution to Bharatanatyam and Mohiniattam.
At the programme Deeksha performed a classical dance which will be telecast on Doordarshan.
Deeksha has also bagged the third place in the national level competition (junior level) conducted by the Navya Nataka Samiti, Hyderabad. Telugu writer C Narayan Reddy had conferred the award on her.
Deeksha was trained by her mother Yasha Ramakrishna in Bharathanatyam and Raju Master of Nileshwar, Kerala, in Mohiniattam and Madhur Balasubramaniam in Carnatic music.
She has also received a scholarship from the Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy for learning Bharatanatyam.
