New Delhi, May 14: A reired doctor was found dead in her house in central Delhi's Prasad Nagar.
Dr Hemlata Gupta, also a Padma Bhushan awardee, was found with her hands tied, mouth gagged and throat slit.
The body of the 65-year-old Dr Gupta was found at her first floor residence in 'I' block of Prasad Nagar.
"She had been gagged with tape on her mouth," a police officer said.
Police suspected it to be a case of murder.
A couple who had gone to visit her found the door open and the house ransacked.
According to preliminary reports the doctor had two visitors on Sunday morning for whom she was seen buying cold drinks from a shop near her residence.
Two suitcases in the house were found open with its contents strewn around.
Police have informed the relatives of Gupta, who was unmarried.
