Chennai, May 13 (Saturday, 11-30 pm) : DMK Chief M Karunanidhi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time today. Karunanidhi will be heading a 31-member DMK ministry in the state.
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala administered the oath of office to the the 82-year-old leader.
Karunanidhi is heading a coalition government in the state for the first time.
With 96 seats, DMK has fallen short of the majority mark of 118 by 22 seats and the gap will be filled by Congress` 34, PMK`s 18, CPI(M)`s 9 and CPI`s 6 in a house of 234.
The 31-member ministry, a blend of experience and new faces including Karunanidhi`s son M K Stalin, will be sworn in at a public ceremony in the sprawling Nehru Stadium. Stalin, a deputy general secretary of DMK, was Mayor of Chennai during the previous DMK government`s tenure between 1996 and 2001.
