Mumbai, May 12: Gold prices shot up further by Rs 125 per 10 gram to hit a new high of Rs 10,390 at the opening session on the Bullion market here on Thursday due to increased stockists' buying after the metal hit a 25-year high in the global market. Silver also opened higher on good buying in line with gold.
Standard gold (99.5 purity) and pure gold (99.9 purity) started the day smartly higher at Rs 10,390 and Rs 10,435 as against yesterday's close of Rs 10,265 and Rs 10,315 respectively.
In the global market, gold futures rallied to a 25-year high of $711.50 per ounce, a gain of $5.80 over yesterday's close on heavy investors bying as a hedge against inflation after crude prices rose to $72.42 per barrel, dealers said.
Ready silver (.999 fineness) started the day Rs 55 higher at Rs 21,550 from yesterday's close of Rs 21,495.
