Mangalore, Dec 29: The activists of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Mangaladevi branch, held a protest against the Deralakatte forced sex incident on Saturday December 28 near Marnamikatta Circle.
Addressing the protestors, Asha Jagadish, president, Hindu Seva Trust, questioned as to why only Hindu girls have been targeted in the recent issues? “Why are the Muslim community leaders silent in this regard? Why don’t the Congress leaders comment on this issue? Why has the present government been silent in this matter, while they were so active with regard to the home stay attack. Where are the intellectual people of our district who had taken the home stay attack to the national and international level?” she queried.
“When we complain of such untoward activities in our surrounding, the police department replies that they are facing lack of staff. If the department cannot control such people, tell us, we will catch the culprits and stop the illegal activities. The culprits who have been arrested in the Derlakatte case have not been taken into 24-hour enquiry custody, but have been directed to be produced in court within a few hours and there are also rumors that the MLAs and the district incharge minister has supported the culprits. Why is there this kind of discrimination in the society with regard to communities?” asked Jagadish.
“Why has Veerappa Moily not commented on this issue? Earlier, in the home stay case, Janardhan Poojary had said that he would felicitate the cameraman who has taken the clippings of the whole incident. Now, will he felicitate the cameraman who shot the blue film in this case?” she asked.
“If the government fails to punish the culprits in this case, then we women will have to set a punishment for them. The Goonda Act has to be invoked against them, failing which we will have to hold massive protests in the coming days,” she warned.
Leaders Subash Padil, Sachin, and Pushparaj were present.
