Udupi, Dec 21: Several children and pedestrians had a lucky escape on Saturday December 21 when a tourist bus carrying school students had a brake failure and rammed into three cars.
The accident occured near Sri Krishna Math.
Students of a higher primary school at Patrakody, Kedila in Bantwal were on an educational tour of Udupi. They had visited Manipal museum and the planetarium and were on their way to Sri Krishna Math when the accident occurred.
It is said that driver of the bus had steered into a narrow lane where buses were not allowed, and was trying to park near the Math when the brakes failed. The bus hit a parked Scorpio with Andhra Pradesh registration, and then, to avoid hitting a woman and a child on the road the bus driver veered the vehicle and hit another car, an Alto with Udupi registration. The bus then rammed into a Hyundai i20 car, with Andhra registration.
Luckily, the cars were parked and empty, and no injuries except minor bruises to bus driver were reported.
Udupi police arrived at the spot and registered a case.
