Udupi, Dec 19: The college day celebrations of St Cecily’s Composite PU College were held recently at St Cecily's School grounds. Pramod Madwaraj, MLA of Udupi constituency presided over the function, while Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO of Udupi diocese of Udupi was the chief guest.
In his presidential address, Pramod Madhawaraj, an ex-Cecilian himself, expressed his sentiments of appreciation and gratitude towards the institution. He hailed the opportunities provided to the students in encouraging them to bring out their talents. He particularly appreciated the fact that each and every student is given the chance of performing on the stage.
Fr Denis D’Sa echoed Madhwaraj's thoughts and stressed on the need for value-based education in today’s world which he said has become more materialistic. He also released the Annual Project Souvenir 'Values that Matter 2013'.
On this occasion Sr Rose Agnes, the retiring principal of the Institution was felicitated. Devendra Nayak placed on record the dedicated and selfless service rendered by her during her tenure as the head of the Institution.
Sr Preethi, the headmistress welcomed the gathering. Devendra Nayak compered the programme and Vasanthi proposed the vote of thanks.
More than 700 students put up a wonderful performance with Indian folk dances, Chinese finger dance, hand mime with UV lights and tableau. Water conservation, women empowerment, gratitude to parents were some of the significant themes which were displayed.
