Mangalore, Dec 18: ICYM Neermarga unit organized a one day charity event 'Youth 2020' on December 8.
This event was organised to help the needy, and the person chosen was Alex, resident of Adyar Padav, an ill patient who was the bread winner of his family. The remaining expenditure amounting to Rs 40,000 from the event has been donated to Alex.
The event comprised of 20 competitions with a total cash prize of Rs 20,000. Seven parishes from Mangalore, namely Omzoor, Kelrai, Kulshekar, Shakthinagar, Ashoknagar, Rosario and Cascia participated during this event.
The competitions included Carol singing, treasure hunts, bible quiz, fashion show and also various spot games.
Fr Ronald D'souza,ICYM director was the chief guest while Fr Godfrey L A Saldanha, Neermarga parish priest presided over the inaugural program.
Cascia parish bagged the first place with a cash prize of Rs 7888 including a trophy, Kulshekar parish won the second place with a cash prize of Rs 6666 and a trophy while the third place was won by Kelrai parish with a cash prize of Rs 5446 and a trophy.
The evening programme was graced by chief guest Anup Denzil Veigas, English lecturer at St Aloysius College along with Fr Godfrey.
Alex's family was felicitated and he was bestowed with a cheque worth Rs 10,000 along with a few clothing and household items. Rs 30,000 will also be provided to Alex as a joint account with ICYM, Mangalore, which will be financed as a fixed deposit with interest over a period of three years.
Daijiworld.com were the media sponsors for the event, while Prince caterers sponsored the food for all. The competitions were sponsored by Anil D'Silva and Wilson Saldanha and the cash prizes were funded by Rajesh Mathais and family, Dubai. Saldanha and family, Kelrai provided for the expenses of the cultural programme and the stage programme was sponsored by Dulcine Pinto, Adyar Padav. The generator was supplied by Vailankani Electricals.
