Kasargod: Man gets 10 years in jail for raping 5-year-old niece

Kasargod, Dec 18: Kasargod district and sessions court on Tuesday sentenced a man to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 for raping his minor niece.
Maruthi (40), who is from Davangere, Karnataka by origin is the person convicted of the crime. He was staying in Kanangad in a rented house.
The incident had occurred on April 17, 2013. He had raped the daughter of his sister, a five-year-old child. As the child fell ill, she was admitted to the Kanangad district hospital where the doctors confirmed that she was raped.
A case was registered in Hosadurga police station in this regard. The accused went into hiding and was finally arrested on April 29.
The police questioning went on for months followed by filing of chargesheet in the court. There were sixteen witnesses.
