Hat-trick win for Sezari, Bangalore in FKCA 'Mangalore Maza'

Bangalore, Dec 2: For the third year in a row, Sezari, Bangalore association bagged the overall championship at the annual sports meet of the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA), Bangalore, aptly titled "Mangalore Maza", which saw the enthusiastic participation of a large number of young and old men as well as women Konkani Catholics of Bangalore at the St Joseph’s Indian School grounds on December 1 Sunday.
The Sports Day event began with hoisting the national tricolor by Karnataka High Court judge, Justice B V Pinto, after prayers by Benny D’Souza. Justice Pinto later lighted the sports torch presented by FKCA Sports Secretary Wesley Fernandes.
Over 64 individual and team events marked the FKCA annual sports day, Mangalore Maza. Among the team events, cricket matches of teams representing different associations with as many as 14 teams for men and throw ball matches for women with 8 different teams were the highlights of the FKCA annual sports day.
The throw ball matches for women was kickstarted by Maria Pinto, wife of Justice Pinto.
The eight-over-a-side cricket matches, which were held on knock-out basis, resulted in an interesting final contest between KCA, Dasarahalli and BKCS, Koramangala, in which KCA, Dasarahalli, turned out to be the final winners.
The Konkani Samudai team of Jayanagar bagged the throwball trophy defeating KON-KAB in the finals.
Justice Pinto, in his inaugural address, complimented the FKCA for organizing the annual sports meet and said FKCA has emerged as a very good platform of the Konkani Catholic community for spreading the message of love, unity and cultural diversity within the community and thereby work for the progress of the State and the country.
Fr Leo Pereira, Secretary and Treasurer of Karnataka Jesuit Province, distributed the prizes to the winners.
Alex Lewis, Managing Director of DNI, Bangalore, was the main sponsor and provided all help to the FKCA sports day programme along with co-sponsor Silvian Noronha, Managing Director of M/s Associated Hydro Pressing Pvt Ltd, Bangalore.
FKCA Chairperson Aida D’Cunha, who welcomed the gathering in the morning, and later at the concluding function, was a live-wire for the entire day’s event. She was ably supported by Edward D’Souza, Dolphy Pinto and other office-bearers and committee members.
