Mangalore, Apr 17: Bangalore based rider C S Santosh representing TVS bagged maximum points and emerged victorious in the first round of the Gulf Dirt Track National Championship 2006. Under the foreign motorcycles up to 250 cc category Santosh obtained a total of 37 points.
The championship held at the Yenepoya grounds in Jeppinamogaru was sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation and was organized by Mangalore Motor Sports Association in collaboration with Sportcraft, Mumbai.
Santosh also received wide appreciation for his performance in the other three categories.
He secured a thrilling victory in the Indian Expert Championship (motorcycle up to 250 cc) race 1 and also in race 2 and a second position in the Private Expert Championship (foreign motorcycles up to 250 cc), race 2.
The winner took home a cash prize of Rs 11,000.
H K Pradeep from TVS won the second place in the Indian Expert Championship (foreign motor cycles). He also bagged the second place in the in motorcycles up to 250 cc, race 1.
Hafeeur Rehman, Syed Zubair, Rustom Patel, Pramod Joshua, Deepak John, Vishal Barguje and Karan Kadam from TVS secured places in different categories.
Balaji N, Arvind K P, Pinkesh Thakkar, Raj, Nithin S, Snehal Chauhan, T K Vishwanath, Mohammed Zubair and Sujeesh R from Yamaha recorded some more places. Shamim Khan, Badal Doshi showed good performance in non-championship categories
The second round of the championship will be held at Coimbatore on July 22 and 23.
