Mangalore, Apr 16: The joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ was celebrated with gusto in Mangalore with Easter Vigil Masses in all the churches. After the meaningful ceremonies of the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, majority of the churches began their ceremonies at 7.30 pm and wound up by 9.30 pm.
The candle light ceremonies which included the blessing of the Pascal candle, blessing of fire and holy water, was held with great devotion.
The church organ which in the Lenten season was lull was enlivened by the angelic choirs on Easter night.
The streets of Mangalore which saw much activity on Saturday night drew dull by 10 pm as all returned home after the service. Few rural churches however kept up the tradition of midnight mass.
This year Easter was truly a liberating celebration as peaceful celebrations were held. The absence of police security around the churches was indeed a welcome sign.
