Mangalore, Apr 16: The slaughter house in the city which has recently become the talk of the town is still a burning issue. With over eight organizations demanding the slaughter house to be renovated and put to maximum use, the district unit of the Maanavata Vedike has planned a protest against the communalization of the issue.

On Monday April 17, a protest will be held in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, informed general secretary of the Forum Yadav Shetty.

The City Corporation has to provide basic amenities so that commercial activities take place in the slaughter house, he said.

In a memorandum submitted to the DC several organizations have said that only 80 per cent of the capacity of the slaughterhouse is being utilized and this has not been able to meet the requirements of the city population. Cattle fairs should also be revised in all taluks of DK district following the Hassan, Bangalore and Bhadravati districts pattern which are under the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee yards.

Shetty, speaking to the press on Saturday April 15, said that all kinds of meat should be available in all the meat stalls in the city.

Claiming that consumption of meat is an integral part of the community Shetty heavily came down on the way some miscreants are taking law into their hands.

Organisations like Democratic Youth Federation of India, Prantha Raitha Sangha, Muslim Merchants Association, Janata Dal (Secular) DK unit, Confederation of SC/ST Associations and the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike have supported this argument.
