Mangalore, Nov 27: November 23 will be marked at Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing as the inaugural with Lamp lighting ceremony of 17th Batch of Basic BSc. Nursing and 19th Batch of General Nursing and Midwifery.
The lamp lighting ceremony, an auspicious occasion in every nurse’s life held in reverence to Florence Nightingale, the Lady with the Lamp as she is more popularly known.
This ceremony initiates students into the noble profession of Nursing. The gathering was welcomed by Shanthi S, assistant professor, Department of Pediatric Nursing, which was followed by inauguration by lighting the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries on the dais.
Professor R Sarojini Devi, principal Govt. College of Nursing, Holenarasipura, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Sandhya Dalmeida, assistant professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing highlighted the importance of celebrating this auspicious event.
The chief guest, professor R Sarojini Devi and Dr Larissa Martha Sams, principal Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing garlanded the portrait of Florence Nightingale, as a tribute of love and respect to the foundress of Nursing.
The novice nurses received the light from the chief guest, professor R Sarojini Devi and principal, Dr Larissa Martha Sams. The ‘Nightingale’s Pledge’ was administered to the students by Shambhavi, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing to maintain their professional loyalty.
The chief guest in her address said that the students must make best use of the opportunities that knock their doors and must have her unquenching thirst for gaining knowledge.
Dr Larissa Martha Sams, Principal, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing asked the students to put their heart and hands in caring for the sick and suffering. Prashanth Shetty, vice president, Laxmi Memorial Education Trust in his presidential address told the students to make best use of the resources provided to them at Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing.
Dr Abhilash Nair, senate member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Dr Theresa Leonilda Mendonca, vice principal, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing were also present on the occasion. Maria Deepthi Sequeira, lecturer, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing proposed the vote of thanks. Students performed magnificently in the various cultural programmes. This was followed by a scrumptious meal for the guests, invitees, faculty members and students. The programme was compered by Patsey Sera Castelino, assistant professor, Dept of Pediatric Nursing, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing.
