Mangalore, Apr 10: The ‘Konkani Kalo B V Baliga Samsmaran’ programme was organized by the Karnataka State Konkani Linguistic Minority Educational Institutions Association at T V Raman Pai Hall here on Sunday April 9 here.
On the occasion, B S Baliga, chairman, Lamina Leasing and Finance, Mangalore, released a compilation of works of his father B V Baliga and edited by Sandhya Shevgoor.
Addressing the gathering, M V Kamath, chairman, Prasar Bharati, opined that the Konkani language may be extinct in the coming few years, if proper attention is not paid to restore it. Lack of uniform script, good books and readers are some of the factors impeding the growth of the language. Children should be taught to respect the language. They should be taught Kannada and Devanigiri scripts, he added.
Blasius M D’Souza, MLC, B R Bhat, general manager, Corporation Bank, Raghunath Shet, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Kiran Panemangalore, secretary, Saraswath Education Institute and Mohan Pai, honorary secretary, were present.
