Shimla's IIAS to remain closed every Monday

Shimla, Nov 15 (IANS): The Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), housed in the century-old Viceregal Lodge here, will now remain closed for tourists every Monday from Nov 25, an official statement said Friday.

At present, the IIAS is open for tourists and visitors every day, except national holidays.

The decision to close the IIAS, the hub for both domestic and foreign tourists, once a week has been taken to ensure the cleanliness of the heritage building, the statement said.

The state museum and the bird park, another tourist attraction near the IIAS, will also remain closed Monday.

Built during the viceroyship of Lord Dufferin (1884-88), the Viceregal Lodge is among the most impressive buildings built by the British here.
