Mysore, Apr 6: At last, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to commence the work on the much-publicised Mandakalli airport near here.
Sources in Bangalore today disclosed to Star of Mysore that the AAI yesterday gave its nod to invite tenders for the work.According to AAI sources, tenders will be invited in about 15 days. After the completion of tender process, work will commence by June end.
A top official said that a team from BMS College in Bangalore recently completed the Geo-Positioning Survey (GPS) on the airport, which was submitted to AAI.
He also said that the AAI posted a freshly-recruited junior officer in Mysore to oversee the preparations 15 days ago. However, he has been sent to Madurai to familiarise with the runway work, which commenced recently.
Land handed over
The district administration has already handed over the required land to AAI barring a chunk of 20 acres, which is under litigation.
We will not wait till the dispute over 20 acres is solved. The work will commence on the available land (154 acres) which is in our possession," he added.
Dy. General Manager of AAI recently visited the city to review the present status of the project.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha member C.H. Vijayashankar disclosed to media persons yesterday that AAI Director Krishnamurthy also visited the airport three days ago.
