Mangalore, Apr 6: Most Rev Sebastian Vallopilly, the first Bishop of Thalassery diocese passed away on Tuesday April 4 at Thalassery.
His mortal remains will be buried at St Joseph’s Cathedral on Thursday April 6 at 10.30 am.
In a press release, Beltangady Diocese Media director Fr Joseph V Francis said that Rev Dr Vallopily was the first Bishop who was appointed for the Syro-Malabar Catholics in Northern Kerala and all over Karnataka.

Bishop Sebastian Valloppilly, Bishop Emeritus of Tellicherry was 94 years old at the time of his death. He was ordained as a priest on August 24, 1945. He was appointed as the administrator of Tellicherry after the erection of the diocese. He was later appointed as the Bishop of Tellicherry on October 16th, 1955.
