Mangalore, Apr 5: Addressing the annual meeting of the Association of Roadside Vendors and Petty Shopkeepers on Tuesday April 4 here, Rachaiah, secretary, district unit of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, alleged that the problems faced by the roadside vendors and petty shopkeepers had not been attended to by the district administration.
The municipal authorities do not take any action against hotels having unclean sanitary conditions, but hold the petty shop owners and roadside vendors responsible, in the event of an epidemic, he added.
Though earlier meetings were held in the presence of legislators, no steps had been initiated to address the problems of petty shopkeepers and roadside vendors, he said.
Vishwanath Shetty, president, BMS district unit, said that the Mangalore City Corporation should follow the pattern of providing good facilities to petty shopkeepers and roadside vendors, as it is done in metro cities.
