Panaji, Apr 1: No, it is not an All Fools' Day joke!
The Goa government has drastically decreased import tax on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and Beer.
"We have slashed the import duty on IMFL and Beer from Rs 10 to 50 paise," stated chief minister Pratapsingh Rane emerging out of the state cabinet meeting on Friday afternoon. Goa cabinet met to review budget proposals.
This, according to the chief minister, was done to give level playing field for those products in the state.
In yet another decision, the state government which had slashed stamp duty from 4 per cent to 2.5 per cent during the budget further slashed it to 2 per cent.
