Udupi, Mar 31: Changing its earlier stand, Vishwa Hindu Parishat in the late hours of Thursday March 30 decided to withdraw its decision to observe district bundh on Friday March 31. Accordingly, VHP confirmed that it has called off the scheduled district bundh.
The decision was taken during a meeting of VHP, Bajrang Dal and other Sangh Parivar organizations Thursday night. Later speaking to the reporters, the leaders said that they condemn the Bhatkal riots. But they have decided to call off bundh, so that normal life is not disrupted.
On the other hand, district BJP press release stated that it condemns the Bhatkal incidents. However, March 31 being, the last day of the fiscal year, they do not want to disrupt public life. Moreover, the PUC students are writing their public examinations. So BJP has decided not to support observing bundh on Friday March 31.
However, decision about Bhatkal riots will be taken during the party meeting to be held in the RSS office here at 10 am on Friday, said district BJP president K Raghupati Bhat, Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar and Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon in a joint press release.
