Udupi, Nov 5: Holy Cross parish of Pamboor bagged the Diocese level championship at the ‘10th Konkani Singing Competition – 2013’. Mother of Sorrow Church were the first runners-up while St John Evangelist Church, Pangala, were the second runners-up.
ICYM Pangala unit organized the contest at St John’s Sabha Bhavan on Sunday November 3. The Konkani singing competition was inaugurated by Fr Leslie C D’Souza, parish priest, St John Evangelist Church, Pangala at 10 am.

Dr Edward Lobo, vice president of Pangala parish parishat, Flavia Menezes, secretary, Bronson Monis, president of ICYM, and Sonel D’Souza, secretary of Pangala unit, along with judges of the competition Anil Patrao of Derebail Mangalore, Alwyn Noronha of Bajpe, and Rony Crasta of Kuleshekar, Mangalore.
The competitions for children were solo singing for boys and girls below 12 years, solo singing for both boys and girls, as well as mixed dual singing for above 12 years and below 18 years, mixed boys and girls for below 15 years. For adults solo, dual, mixed, and group singing competitions were held.
During the valedictory function, Monsignor Baptist Menezes, vicar general of Udupi Diocese, Fr Edwin D’Souza, director of Youth Commission (ICYM, YCS & YCM), Fr Dr Leslie C D’Souza, director, ICYM, Pangala, and parish priest of Pangala Church, Fr Paul Rego, ICYM director of Shirva Deanery, Fr Vincent Coelho, principal of St John’s P U College, Shankerpura, Dr Edward Nazareth, parish pastoral parishat vice-president, Flavia Menezes, secretary of parish pastoral parishat, Clara Mendonca, animator of ICYM
Pangala unit, Branson Monis, president, and Sonel D’Souza, secretary of ICYM Pangala unit, and three judges of competition, were present.
A total of 16 parishes of Udupi Diocese participated during in the mega singing competition. Dr Leslie D’Souza gave the keynote address. The valedictory was compered by Oliver D’Sa while Sonel D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
