Bellary, Nov 2 (DHNS): In yet another jailbreak at the Central Jail here, two undertrials escaped in the wee hours of Friday.
According to Anand Reddy, Superintendent of jail. Ayyalappa and Rebanna. Both men, who are accused in cases of abduction, extortion and the murder, sneaked out of the barracks located in ‘B’ Block by forcing open the iron rods. The accused then used bedsheets, lungi and clothes to scale the 18-foott wall and escaped.
The accused, both residents of the Gundagi village in Sindagi taluk of Bijapur district, were arrested last year on the charges of abduction, extortion and murder. Ayyalappa and Rebanna had allegedly hired a SUV in Hospet and murdered the driver.
“Most of the barracks in the prison are in a dilapidated state. Also, the staff-prisoner ratio in the prison is awful. Add to it, there was no power supply to the barbed fence laid on the compound wall, which made the jailbreak easy for the accused, Anand Reddy said.
Officials suspended
Vishwanathaiah, DIG Prison department, who visited the Central Jail following the jailbreak incident, suspended two jail officials on the charges of dereliction of duty.
“Vishwanath and Krishna Huilgol, who were on night patrol, are suspended with immidiate effect,” Vishwanathaiah said.
