New Delhi, Nov 1 (IANS): A mother was arrested for strangulating her girl child and throwing her into a manhole in the premises of a hospital in the capital, police said Friday.
The woman was arrested Thursday and admitted that she killed the child because the birth of twin girls three months ago had upset her, police said.
A sanitation employee found the dead infant Tuesday afternoon in a manhole at New Delhi's Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
During investigation, Gudia, in her late 20s, identified the baby as her daughter but concocted a story that she had come to the hospital Tuesday for the child's treatment.
Gudia of Majnu Ka Tila in north Delhi told police she had gone to the washroom after handing her daughter to an unknown woman, who she claimed disappeared with her child.
"Following further questioning, Gudia broke down and admitted that she had thrown her daughter into the manhole after strangulating her as she was upset over the birth of twin girls three months ago," said a police officer.
