Mangalore, Mar 28: The Western genres have deeply mesmerised Indian fiction in English said R Shashidhar chairman PG Studies in English, Mangalore University.

Delivering the keynote address at the national seminar on perspectives in Indian English fiction organized by the Association of English Teachers (AET) of Mangalore University at St Aloysius College on Monday, March 27, he said that India received a lot from Western countries but was never overpowered in terms of music or dance. However the Western influence on Indian fiction is really amazing.

The seminar was inaugurated by Mangalore university registrar Sundar Naik. Speaking on the occasion he said that the Indian English fiction writing has come a long way in the last few decades. It has become vibrant and visible.

College principal Fr Eugene Lobo presided over the programme. AET president Prof Lourdusamy and vice president Matilda Pinto were present.
