Moodbidri, Mar 28: These days rape, sexual harassments and related cases are increasing by leaps and bounds. The undivided district of Dakshina Kannada which was once known to be haven for women folk is fast turning into a hell to them. Animalism is creeping into the district at an alarming pace.
The suicide of a housewife at Kana near Belvai is another example of this unhealthy trend.
Rajkumari (27), wife of Murugesh, a resident of Kana near Belvai here ender her life by hanging herself from the roof of the bathroom on Sunday March 26 afternoon. In a complaint lodged with the Moodbidri police, her husband Murugesh stated that his wife committed suicide owing to the sexual harassment by Rajan for whom Murugesh is working.
Murugesh hails from Vakkadatiruvu of Tirunalvali in Tamil Nadu and was employed in the bakery owned by one Rajan of Tamil Nadu origin. Rajan owns bakeries in Moodbidri, Mangalore and Chikamagalur. In the beginning Murugesh was employed in the bakery at Chikamagalur and was residing in a rented house near Chikamagalur bus stand.
Rajan too used to reside in an adjacent room whenever he used to come to Chikamagalur. During one of his previous visits he sexually assaulted Rajkumari taking advantage of her husband Murugesh's absence. But when she shouted for help he fled the place.
Distressed by this, Rajkumari informed her husband about this. On the very next day, they left Chikamagalur and came to Kana near Belvai and started residing in "Sujay Nivas" there. But Rajan came to Kana too and started troubling Rajkumari once again. Though she informed her husband, Rajan continued with his behaviour.
Ultimately, frustrated by these developments, Rajkumari ended her life on Sunday afternoon when no one was there in the house.
She is survived by husband Murugesh, a daughter and a son.
In the meantime, accused Rajan is absconding. The Moodbidri police are investigating the case.
