Udupi, Mar 28: Realising the importance of learning English in schools, the Udupi zilla panchayat has paved the way for the rest by introducing English in an effective manner in all Kannada medium schools right from Std I.
This pioneering move will be in effect from the next academic year making it the first district in the state to do so.
At the monthly meeting held here on Monday, March 27, ZP president B N Shankar Poojary instructed officials of the Department of Public Instruction to initiate action in this regard.
The ZP chieftain said that he has spoken to the minister for primary and secondary education and obtained a positive response to the proposal.
The DDPI has also been instructed to carry out necessary preparations for introducing English in the lower classes which also include training and recruitment of teachers. The meeting also discussed the need for special training to teachers and preparation of a special curriculum to meet the needs of the children.
