Air Marshal Arup Raha named new air chief


New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS): Air Marshal Arup Raha will be the new Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Norman Anil Kumar Browne who retires on December 31, it was announced here Tuesday.

Air Marshal Raha, presently the IAF vice chief, was commissioned on December 14, 1974 in the fighter stream of the flying branch.

During a career spanning nearly 39 years, he has held various command, staff and instructional appointments. He has also served as India's air attache in the Ukraine.

Besides various technical courses, Air Marshal Raha has done National Defence College, Staff College, Strategic Nuclear Orientation Course and Junior Commanders' Course.

He has headed the Central Air Command and the Western Air Command, the IAF's swordarm.

Air Marshal Raha is a recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal, the Ati Vishist Seva Medal and the Vayu Medal for distinguished service.
