Mangalore, Mar 23: A workshop to plan the polio eradication campaign was held here recently under the aegis of the Rotary Club of Mangalore Central, Indian Medical Association district chapter and K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA).
The workshop was organized with a purpose to motivate and educate doctors, Rotarians, government officials and voluntary organizations on the activities planned and to allocate responsibilities on the national immunization days scheduled for April 9 and May 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Shantharam Shetty, dean, KSHEMA, praised the services of the NGOs, Rotarians and voluntary units for their work towards polio eradication. Though polio is non-existent in South India, has still remained uncontrolled in Bihar and Orissa and nearly 50,000 children are affected every year in the country, he added.
Also present were Dr P Narayana, member, National Pulse Polio Committee, Dr Sooryanarayana, chairman, Rotary Polio Plus Committeed and Dr B Devdas Rai, president, IMA.
