Kundapur, Oct 25: Catholic Sabha, Kundapur committee of Udupi region submitted a memorandum to the assistant executive engineer urging for urgent repairs to the national highway which is in very bad condition.
Office bearers of several catholic associations, leaders of 12 Churches went to the office of assistant executive engineer and urged for urgent highway repairs.
The NH 66 is filled with potholes from Kundapur to Shiroor and the condition is worse from Kundapur government bus stand till Thrasi and is not motorable for the last three months. People who must travel by this road such as patients and school children are put to great hardship. Now that the rains have stopped the work should be started before November 4, failing which a large scale protest will be inevitable, they warned.
Vinod Crasta, regional president of Catholic Sabha spoke on the occasion. “The association which has 12 Churches in its ambit is urging for urgent repairs for everybody’s benefit. People are experiencing unnecessary difficulties due to the bad shape of the road. We will be protesting on the streets if the repairs are not started before November 4,” he said.
The memorandum was handed over to the office staff Rajiv Naika in the absence of assistant executive engineer. Catholic Sabha Udupi region president Elro Kiran Crasta, joint secretary Shanti Carvalho, Catholic Sabha regional secretary Shanthi Pereira, Joint treasurer Wilson Almeida, Fredrick, Basrur unit’s Mabel D’ Souza, Kundapur unit’s Wilson Olivera, Padukone unit’s Gratian D’ Souza and Kota unit’s Nora D’ Souza were present.
