Panaji, Mar 21 (Tuesday, 10-00 pm): Following the arrest of the two persons hailing from UP, who have been accused of killing Fr Eusebio Ferrao at Macasana, DIG Ujwal Mishra addressed a press conference on Tuesday evening to brief the media on how the crime took place and how the duo was nabbed.
The following information has been revealed by the duo to the police during the interrogation, which is yet to be confirmed.
Manish Dubey has been in Goa since September 2005, on the lookout for a job.
He got a job of a helper in a transport firm, but he was not happy with it.
He had a chance meeting with Fr Eusebio in a garden one day.
On hearing his sob story, the priest promised to find a job for him.
Manish met him about 3 or 4 times ever since but Fr Eusebio could not fulfil his promise.
On the night of the crime, Manish came to visit the priest along with his friend Amit. The priest offered them beer. Since they did not have the habit of drinking, they are said to have gone high with the consumption of beer. They also shared food with the priest. And then they went to bed.
After about two hours, the priest is said to have come to them to enquire if they were feeling comfortable.
Within minutes, somehow, there was an argument and Manish started attacking the priest, while the latter started yelling at them.
To stop him from yelling, Manish is said to have held the pillow on the priest's face and suffocated him.
In self-defence, the priest held out a small kitchen-knife, which they snatched from him and started attacking him with it. He was reportedly stabbed 27 times with the knife, following which the priest died.
Around 4 am they are said to have taken a lift from Macasana to Margao in a vehicle which is yet to be identified. They took a train to Allahabad, their native place. However, apprehending that the police would follow them there, they got down at Nagpur, where a brother of Manish is said to be studying medicine.
Since the police enquiries failed to get any information about them in Allahabad, the team went to Nagpur guessing that Manish's brother would know his whereabouts. Their guess was on the dot.
Both Manish and Amit were picked up from Nagpur at 8-45 am on Tuesday. The time of arrest is said to be 12-00 on record. They were flown to Goa by a domestic flight and the team landed here around 5 pm.
The soon after, DIG Mishra addressed the press meet to brief the media.
The public of Goa are all praise for the quick police action and hot pursuit.
