Delhi ahead of Gujarat, says Dikshit

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS): On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit again said that Delhi is ahead of Gujarat. She had earlier said BJP's prime ministerial nominee, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, mattered little in assembly polls.

Addressing a press conference at her residence, the three-time chief minister boasted of Delhi's 3.8 percent gross domestic product contribution at the national level despite just a 1.4 percent share of the total population.

Highlighting Delhi’s economic growth, she said the average growth rate in the capital was 10.33 per cent in the last five years compared to Gujarat’s 9.51 per cent and the national average of 8.03 per cent.

She added that Delhi's gross state domestic product is much higher than that of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Haryana, Punjab, Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

She said Delhi's per capita income at Rs.2.01 lakh during 2012-13 is the highest in the country which indicates its vibrant economy.

"It is Gujarat which trumpets its achievement and comes to the capital to tell that Delhi only cuts ribbons," Dikshit said.

Attacking the Delhi unit of the BJP, Dikshit said the party was spreading "misinformation" against the 15-year-old Congress government in the state.

When asked about the wrangling in the BJP over the chief ministerial nominee she said: "We don't look at BJP conflict."

Assembly polls will be held in Delhi Dec 4.
