Mangalore, Mar 21: The Academic Council of Mangalore University approved the Rs 3.08 crore deficit budget for 2006-07 on Monday March 20. The budget placed before the meeting by T Mallikarjunappa finance officer and dean faculty of commerce, put the receipts at Rs 36.82 crore and expenditure at Rs 39.90 crore. However the deficit will be met by the savings of the previous year.
The non-plan income of the university includes 45.68 per cent state government block grant, 3.41 per cent state government other grant, 20.50 per cent as fee from student and colleges, 3.51 per cent as income from university employees, 9.10 per cent as examination fee, 0.25 per cent from distance education and 17.55 per cent as deposits.
Out of the total budget, the university has planned to spend Rs 14.04 core for salary and allowances, Rs 6.27 core as administrative expenditures, R 73 lac for pensions, Rs 2.89 crore for examination activities, Rs 19 lac for distance education, Rs 7 crore for deposits, Rs 1.16 crore for unit colleges, and Rs 1.36 for post graduate department hostels.
Among the development works proposed in the year 2006-07 budge are construction of a 400 metre track with pavilion on the university campus, construction of an Ambedkar Bhavan on the campus and construction of 25,000 litre capacity overhead water tank and underground drainage in the campus. A residential quarters for teachers on the FMKKM college campus in Madikeri and extension of the college building is also proposed.
