Kundapur, Mar 21: A housewife, frustrated by the alcoholic nature of her husband, hacked him to death on Sunday March 19 night at Vakvady near here.

Girija (38) killed her husband Nagu (45), a tipper driver after the latter came home drunk and assaulted her on Sunday night.

Nagu actually hailed from Gundigoli near Basrur but had shifted to Vakvady a year ago. There he had built a new house which was named 'Pallavi'. He has two children Krishna and Pallavi. While Krishna is employed in Bangalore, Pallavi has been residing in her grandmother's house owing to the constant fights between her parents.

Nagu had taken to excessive drinking some time ago. This had given rise to constant verbal fights between the husband and wife. He even used to assault her physically at times. On Sunday he came home drunk and started fighting with his wife Girija. Soon he was up in arms and tried to choke Girija to death.

At this Girija took a sickle which was nearby and hit him on his neck thrice. Having sustained deep wounds, Nagu ran out of the house in sheer fear. But as he reached the gate he fell on the ground and died due to excessive bleeding.

Girija immediately informed her neighbours about the entire episode. Soon the police were summoned to the place. She was then taken into custody by the women police and was produced before the court on Monday March 20.
