Kolkata, Oct 21 (IANS): Claiming that the West Bengal government had 64 secret files on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a section of the nationalist leader's family Monday urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to declassify them.

"The West Bengal government has 64 files pertaining to Netaji, which if made public would provide a lot of information about him. We therefore urge the chief minister to declassify them," said family spokesperson and Netaji's grandson Chandra Kumar Bose.

Addressing the media after participating in a rally here to commemorate the 70th foundation day of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind that Netaji headed during the Second World War, the family said it will meet Banerjee to make a formal request.

"We are planning to meet Banerjee and make a request regarding declassification. We are hopeful she will honour our request and make the documents public which will give impetus to our fight for declassification of all the documents relating to Netaji. Let her show the way," added Bose.

A large section of the Netaji family, researchers and historians have been seeking declassification of over 100 secret files said to be with various government departments including the prime minister's office (PMO).

The family and the researchers are also making efforts to create a nationwide movement seeking declassification of the documents so that the country get to know the "real history" about Netaji.
