Mangalore: Harishchandra takes charge as SP of Mescom vigilance department

Mangalore, Oct 21: Harishchandra, former DySP in the office of IGP (western range), took charge as the superintendent of police (SP) of Mescom vigilance department, during a programme held at the Mescom office near AB Shetty Circle here on Monday October 21.
Harishchandra received a floral welcome from his colleagues. Mescom vigilance DySP Vinay Gaonkar handed over the charge, as outgoing SP P V Suresh has already taken charge as DSP of Sagar.
A formal meeting was also held on the occasion. DySP Vinay Gaonkar welcomed the new SP and grave a brief introduction on the functioning of the vigilance department. The Mangalore vigilance department handles four districts - DK, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga. Every district has one vigilance police station.
“We book charges on the basis of Anti Corruption Act against the staff who indulge in corruption and bribery. We also investigate the theft cases on the basis of complaints received, and other such cases, and take necessary action,” he said.
“Mescom has given us all facilities. New SP Harishchandra has good experience in the police department. As he is new to Mescom, he will soon pick up,” he added.
Addressing after taking charge, SP Harishchandra said, “After serving in various fields in the police department like the Anti-Naxal Force, police training school, and as DySP etc, I have now been chosen to serve as the SP of Mescom vigilance department. I have only a year left for my retirement and will do my best to serve people.”
Ram Raj, executive engineer, Mescom, Shantharam, DK inspector, T R Jayashankar, Udupi inspector, Nagaraj, Shimoga inspector, M V Mallapur, Chikmagalur inspector among others were present on the occasion.
