Mangalore, Mar 18: 'Akshaya Patra Foundation' (APF), run by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), plans to cover 10 lac ( one million) underprivileged school children under its midday meals scheme by 2010, an ISKCON official said.
The `Akshaya Patra', at present, offers midday meals to 3.8 lakh children in eight places in the country including Jaipur and Baran in Rajasthan and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, Govinda Das, who heads public relations at ISKCON, told reporters here today.
The conventional gas cooking method used till now would be replaced by a steam boiler system here, which would help the Foundation extend the scheme to 25,000 more children by next academic year, he said.
The phase-I steam based kitchen, being set up here with the help of ONGC and MRPL, would be inaugurated by ONGC Chairman Subir Raha tomorrow, he said.
