Udupi, Mar 19: Nagarjuna Thermal Power Project has approached the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) to transport coal required by it for the thermal power plant to be set up at Nandikur. This was disclosed by managing director K K Gokhale (KRC) said that goods trains were always profitable for Konkan Railway rather than running passenger trains.
Konkan Railway will gain by exporting goods if ONGC project comes up in Mangalore. However so far ONGC authorities have not approached the corporation, Gokhale added.
In order to reduce accidents, Konkan Railway Corporation has drawn out Rs 100 crore project following a five year model since 2003. For the last one and half years, accidents under Konkan Railway limits have reduced considerably, Gokhale said.
The KRC has earned a turnover of Rs 340 crore, this year compared to Rs 130 crore during 1998, informed Gokhale.
