New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS): Accusing the UPA government of failing to curb price rise, the BJP said it is "costing the country so much" as the wholesale price index of food items touched a seven-month high Tuesday, and the prices of fruits, vegetables and basic commodities soared.
"The bad state of affairs is because of misgovernance. Keeping this government in office is costing the country so much... the sooner it goes, the better it will be for the nation," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told reporters here.
"People are losing jobs, there is no food security... There is no money in the market," she said.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman claimed the United Progressive Alliance regime has "totally failed" in containing inflation.
"Even after a sense of house was adopted against price rise, the government is just sitting and waiting for the prices to go down automatically," she said.
India's wholesale price inflation accelerated to a seven-month high in September, and after two months of downward trend, retail inflation also increased, mainly because of higher vegetable prices.
