Suspension order of Ambedkar College principal to reach Monday

New Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS): Suspension orders will be handed over to the principal of B.R. Ambedkar College for allegedly abetting the suicide of a former colleague, the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) said Saturday.

Pavitra Bharadwaj, 40, a former laboratory assistant at the college, set herself ablaze Sep 30 outside the office of the Delhi chief minister. She died on Monday of burn injuries. Bharadwaj alleged that Arora sexually harassed her.

“The inquiry report and the suspension order have already been signed by Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh and will be handed over to the principal of B.R Ambdekar College Monday,” DUTA president Nandita Narain said.

Principal G.K. Arora's suspension was recommended Friday evening by the college's governing body, which sent its inquiry report to the vice chancellor for approval and action.

“He will not be allowed to join any other college affiliated to DU in future,” Narain said.

The suspended principal protested his innocence, and said the move was unfair.

“Instead of demanding an explanation from me, I am being suspended from my job,” Arora said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said: "Once the governing body of the college completes the inquiry in the case, on the basis of evidence, we shall register a case against the suspended principal, if required, and investigate the matter further.”
