Daijiworld News Network – Bantwal/Vittal (VM)

Bantwal, Mar 14: Vittal town is reeling under shortage of water. It may be noted that the town panchayat supplies water that is collected from 18 borewells. However in the backdrop of depleting water level in two borewells of Vittal, shortage of drinking water has been felt in the Vittal town.

Vittal town is supplied water from three borewells that are located near Netrakere, Girls High School and Bhagawathi Temple. Among them, the Netrakere borewell has enough water as the water level has risen due to the depletion in water level in the rest of the borewells. Despite there being enough water in 16 borewells, water woes continue to exist in many areas.

At a few places in Vittal, water has not been found even-though 500 ft deep borewells were dug. The unplanned use of underground water has caused the depletion in water level. Rain water harvesting and recharging underground water was undertaken to recharge the dried up wells and borewells.

A project proposal of Rs 20 lac has been presented to the government under the drinking water project to ease the problem of drinking water scarcity during the summer in the Vittal Gram Panchayat jurisdiction. A proposal has been submitted to the government, to construct two borewells at the cost of Rs 2 lac in Ukkuda and Seegeballe, since water level has depleted in the borewells that are undertaken for drinking water supply project in the populated areas of Ukkuda and Okkethoor.
