Mangalore MLA N Yogish Bhat on Monday March 14 directed the district administration and Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to initiate the process of evacuating residents of the apartments located close to the excavated site
The site was inspected by the MLA along with Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H V Parshwanath and Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Chandrappa inspected the site excavated from a height of 100 feet.
Bhat who spoke to reporters said that a catastrophe would happen if adequate measures are not taken. Noting that builder Dharmaraj and other promoters had initiated construction without obtaining any licences from the City Corporation, he said he had asked the officers concerned to ensure that such mindless excavations and unscientific constructions do not take place in city.
As safety of the residents is of utmost importance the people in the neighbouring apartments must be evacuated soon, Bhat demanded.
