Mangalore, Mar 13: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy on Sunday disclosed that the State Government had decided to develop Tier-II cities of international standard in order to attract more investment to the State.

On his visit to the city to participate in the centenary year celebrations of Corporation Bank, Kumarswamy said that efforts were on to develop infrastructure in Tier II cities like Mangalore, Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad, Gulbarga, Mysore and Hassan.

In an effort to decongest Bangalore, two theme-based townships would come up on the Bangalore-Mysore infrastructure corridor (BMIC). The state government is also contemplating to develop an IT city near the Bangalore-Mangalore highway to reduce the concentration of IT activities in Bangalore.

The on-going projects like the International Airport at Devenahalli near Bangalore were nearing completion and the government was also thinking of upgrading the Mangalore airport, he added. Proposals to build airports at other places including Hassan, Gulbarga and Karwar had also come up, he said.

The state is keen in promoting tourism in places like Mangalore, Malpe and Mysore, said that chief minister.
