Mangalore, Mar 12: The first -ever sound-and-light play "Udenticho Chouto Rai", a 2-hour-long play staged on St Agnes Special School open grounds was a grand success which was evident from the presence of an overwhelming crowd of over 4,000 people. The play, which was organized by the Konkani Natak Sabha, was directed by Dolla Mangalore, with Wilfy Rebimbus directing its music.

The spectacular show created history in the Konkani theatre world by adopting innovative methods of play presentation. A total of 10 stages involved a total of 80 artistes.

The music and the pre-recorded vocals received much appreciation. The clarity and accuracy of dialogues, supported by suitable background musical score impressed everyone.  The soul-stirring scenes of the heinous killing of the innocent babes by Herod’s soldiers and the crucifixion of Jesus kept almost the entire audience in tears.

Bishop of Mangalore Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza who spoke to the audience before the play admitted that the play was an apt media to tune up people's lives during the season of Lent.


"Udenticho Chouto Rai", is a story about the Magi from the east who visited Jesus upon his birth and offered their precious gifts.  The play is based on this legend written by an anonymous writer.  Fr Ronald Serrao has penned the dialogues and Wilfy Rebimbus has scored music for the play. Claud D'Souza is the assistant director of the play.
